For the ancients, long hair was much more than a matter of aesthetics. It was an antenna, a symbol and a form of communication. This is the truth about long hair and why natives wore their hair long!
The Truth About Long Hair, Spiritual Power, And Why Natives Wore Their Hair Long
In Native cultures, men and woman are recognized by the length and glory of their hair. The cutting of hair by oppressors has long represented the submission and defeat of a People, through humiliation. The way a People comb (the Alignment of thought), braid (the Oneness of thought), tie (the Sec

Natives wear their hair long, and monks tend to avoid having hair.
Both are very spiritual practices. I'm think aesthetics aren't very important, but it may help you psychologically, depending on your point of view.

Thank you for sharing, I have a little of Indian on both sides of my family. My great grandmother had quite a bit of native American in her and I always wondered why she never cut her hair I remember when I was about 4 or 5 mom would brush it and braid it for her. It was raven black and now that I think of it I have never even saw it shoulder length on her before and her eyes were always real dark as well. She was always so beautiful to me. Unfortunately I look more like the German in my family except for my eyes its not close enough in my blood to show thru me.

Okay people. I have read several of the comments and also the subcomments here. Get some intellegence people and stop being so insecure with yourselves to continue to debate on everything that is posted on facebook and taking it so personally. Whether you are Native American, Military, have/had cancer, or spiritual or not....this post is simply just describing why "Native American's" wore their hair long and what it meant to them and their culture. You might actually learn something, whether you agree with it or not or your cirucstances are different, by just being quiet and taking in information instead of whinning about everything because you are not secure with who you are inside. God loves you just the way you are, and your circumstances are not the same as everyones, you don't need to prove anything to God or anyone else.

Thanks Maria Maria! Indeed interesting article, it's not all true, but I love long hair. What about those who go bald, loose hair to illnesses such as cancer, spiritual monks and other short haired people. Spiritual connection comes from within, depending how you look at it, different cultures perceive long in different ways, some may perceive it to gain you a higher order connection to a spiritual power, for others it's just aesthetics. What ever works for you. I love long hair x

My great grand mtr on my mothers side was full blooded Cherokee. Growing up my favorite aunt Ruth Moore I called her antii used to always tell my mother not to cut me and my sisters Glory! I asked anti what is my GLORY and she said this was my hair. Pass down thru Cherokee culture in our family. Your GLORY will guide me, keep me strong and wise.I now keep my hair in braids because it has not been cut in yrs.

Hair is, indeed, a spiritual antenna. But fingers are much more powerful in this role in my experience. They can transmit and receive energy.

Conscious Living with Jason Demakis
My first Astral Projection took place when I was only five years old, living in my old house in Peabody, Massachusetts.
I’ll never forget the uniqueness and strangeness of the then-foreign experience, which has now become a common occurrence (through practice, of course).
It all started just like any other evening: brushing my teeth, laying down, and drifting off to sleep in my bed.
That night, however, something “strange” was about to happen…

I haven't dyed my hair in over 4 years and at that point it was pixie short. I've been growing out my hair since 2012 and it's now It's half-way down my back. I wash it at most every 5 Days (have gone as long as 14 days), get it trimmed maybe 2-3 times a year at most and rarely use heated tools on it. I have natural blond streaks around my face and a few white hairs I call highlights. Although my hair is fine, I have lots of it and the longer I go without washing it, the nicer it gets. When it gets to the bottom of my back I will cut it and give it away for cancer but will likely grow it back. For the first time in a long time, I my natural hair. This picture was in February 2015 after 14 days without washing it.

My hair is an expression of how I feel. Therefore I agree. My hair makes me feel growth, and teaches me patience, and to fall in love with the process.
