Andrée Putman was an eclectic French designer. From architecture to interior decoration and fashion, her approach to design was characterized by simplicity and modernity.
At the end of the 1950s, Andrée Aynard married Jacques Putman, art editor, critic and collector. She began her career in 1958 as a fashion designer for Prisunic. Her goal was to make art accessible to the public in general.
Her style became evident through her use of sober spaces and optical effects in creating the very first boutique hotel, New York's Morgans Hotel in 1984. She sought to change behavior by breaking with current conventions and using open-plan arrangements.
