Parisian (1925-2013). This grande dame's design career grew out of a passion for purchasing 1930s French modernist furniture from Paris flea markets. Her collection led to the founding of Ecart, where she sold her finds and took on residential clients. In 1980 Putman was tapped by Ian Schrager (of Studio54 fame) for the design of what is arguably the world's first boutique hotel - the Morgans Hotel in Manhattan. From that point on, Putman's name was on the international scene and she spent the remaining 27 years of her career designing everything from furniture to flatware, high rise apartment complexes to airplanes. Today, Putman's daughter, Olivia, carries on her mother's legacy as creative directer at Studio Putman.
