This charming little work table, with a drawer containing a writing slide, was made by Riesener in 1788 for the private apartments of Queen Marie-Antoinette at the Château de Saint-Cloud. The tulipwood marquetry is of lozenge design, and is contained within 21 double border in black and white, an idea borrowed from Oeben. It can be compared with the richer and grander table made by Riesener for the Queen’s boudoir at Fontaine-bleau, in which the lozenge marquetry is in mother-of-pearl. Musée Nissim cle Camondo, Paris
