This chiffonier containing narrow drawers behind sliding doors bears the stamp of Oeben. If it is indeed by his hand, it must be earlier than 1763, the year of his death. Because of its decided Louis XVI character; it is often ascribed to Riesener who directed Oeben’s workshop after his death, using his stamp. When Riesener finally married Oeben’s widow in i757 he carried on the workshop in his own name. The marquetry of cubes within an interlaced border is, however, typical of Oeben who may well have introduced designs in advance of his period. Louvre, Paris
